The
FreeGirl dream was inspired about 7 years ago
shortly after the 9/11 tragedies. Three long
time friends were moved to action after having
witnessed women in Afghanistan being lined up in
a soccer stadium on television and publicly
executed for having shown their hair in public.
After seeing this footage on TV they created
both FreeGirl Apparel, Inc. and The FreeGirl
Foundation. With the help of their friends and
family they began working on bringing the dream
to life in an effort to help make the world a
safer place. With the support of their local
community a groundswell of support ensued that
today has grown into quite a network of
supporters from coast to coast - A network of
believers that we like to call The FreeGirl
Family.
FreeGirl Apparel donates 5% of net profits to
The FreeGirl Foundation whose mission is to
eliminate the dehumanization of females on a
global scale by working to end gender-based
violence directed towards women and girls
everywhere. Our beneficiary for 2008 will be The
National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV).
Their mission is to organize for collective
power by advancing transformative work, thinking
and leadership of communities and individuals
working to end the violence in our lives.
